The grassroots sensitization programme organised by the Public Information Office of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) made a stop-over in the village of Bla, some 15 km from Daloa town on Thursday 21 August to encourage the various communities to work for a peaceful presidential election in 2015.

The mobile campaign known as comprised of other UNOCI sections including the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR), UN Police and Human Rights division whose representative, Hyacinthe Brou said the aim of the meeting was to call on the population to avoid violence during elections and to create awareness on the activities of the UN Mission and how they benefit to the Ivorian people.

Anicet Bekrou of the Public Information Office told the people that "an election is a game that should be won by persons who present convincing arguments." He said what was more important was to unite their efforts toward the development of their village and not by quarrelling because of their allegiance to different political parties.

The Chief of Bra village, Toussaint Kore expressed satisfaction with the UNOCI initiative which he believed would make his people understand the need to renounce violence in general and particularly during elections.

The occasion ended with a women's football match aimed at inculcating the values of Fair play.
