Administrative authorities of Haut Sassandra and Marahoue learn to implement security sector reform

The town of Daloa on 25 June 2014 hosted a 2-day seminar-workshop for Prefects and Sub Prefects of the Haut Sassandra and Marahoue regions on the techniques of implementing security sector reform. The seminar was conducted by the Security Sector Reform (SSR) division of the UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on the initiative of the Ivorian National Security Council.

According to UNOCI- SSR official Shahrazad Chida, the seminar was aimed at decentralising the SSR process and to permit the beneficiaries to take ownership of the process in order to contribute to its efficient implementation.

At the end of the workshop, a spokesperson for the participants, the Secretary-General of the Bouafle Prefecture, Hortense Aka expressed their commitment to provide the two regions with monitoring committees to identify and take into consideration proposals by the different actors in the reform process. These committees would also be charged with formulating a plan of action to boost security in the two regions.

The Sub Prefect of Boguedia, Lucie Bouadie said she was satisfied with the reform which, she said, would permit a lasting solution to certain concerns related to the security of the local population, especially the difficult relations between traditional hunters generally known as and the population.
