UNOCI provides assistance to search operation after collapse of building in Yopougon,

The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) is providing support and assistance to search and rescue operations being carried out by the Ivorian authorities following the collapse of a four-storey building in the Abidjan neighbourhood of Yopougon on Tuesday, 7 January 2014.



Following the incident, which happened around 3pm local time, the UN Mission, in collaboration with the Ivorian emrgency services, sent equipment to the site to facilitate the ongoing search and rescue operation. These equipment included an excavator, a ground-clearing machine, an electric generator and large torchlights.



The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Mrs Aïchatou Mindadoudou, went to the site of the incident where she met the Minister delegated to the Ivorian President in charge of Defence, Paul Koffi Koffi as well as police authorities and members of the Ivorian emergency service
