Some 448 soldiers of UNOCI's Senegalese battalion were recently decorated with
UN medals in Yamoussoukro by UNOCI Force Commander, General Mohammed Asi Iqbal.
Senegal has been contributing troops to the UN since 1960.

The Mayor of Daloa, Samba Coulibaly has requested the assistance of UNOCI in the
realisation of different projects for the welfare of the citizens.

The Secretary-General of the Democratic Party of Cote d'Ivoire (PDCI), Djedje
Mady has declared his candidacy for the presidency of the party. He told a press
conference yesterday that his candidacy was not directed against the current
party president, Henri Konan Bedie, 79, who responded favourably to a call by a
recent party conclave to put in his candidacy for the party leadership. Mr. Mady
said Mr. Bedie's acceptance to run was in violation of party statutes which
disqualify candidates above 75 years old. Mr. Mady said he hoped the incumbent
would reconsider his decision.

As a fallout from the recent visit to the Gagnoa area by National Assembly
President Guillaume Soro, former youth leader, Ble Goude might be released on
bail, according to sources close to the Ministry of Justice. Ble Goude who has
been in detention for the past eight months might be released along with other
prominent followers of former president Laurent Gbagbo.
