PROMOTING HUMAN RIGHTS AMONG STUDENTS

The UN Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) took part in a reopening ceremony on 14 June of the documentation and information centre on human rights at the Felix Houphouet Boigny University in Abidjan.

The documentation centre which was created in 2009 by the Association of Law Students in Côte d'Ivoire was completely ransacked during the post-electoral crisis.

At the reopening ceremony, the head of UNOCI's Human Rights Division, Eugene Nindorera stressed the importance of the initiative with regard to human rights education and research. "A centre such as this serves several functions and opens up prospects for creativity. It is a question of exercising the imagination and to see the possibilities of taking better advantage of the documentation," he said, while appealing for the teaching of human rights principles.

The director of the Centre, Albert Yao Koouakou said he was satisfied with UNOCI's constant support and stressed the importance of promoting human rights among students.

An appeal was launched to partners to continue assisting the documentation centre for human rights at the Felix Houphouet Boigny University in Abidjan.
