UNOCI Quick Impact Project: Tengrela Police Station gets face lift

The UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire (UNOCI) on 25 September 2014 handed over the keys of the recently renovated Police station of Tengrela municipality, 800 km north of Abidjan as well as office equipment and materials including computers.

The Coordinator of UNOCI offices in Korhogo, Adama Tinde said the initiative taken by UN Police was in support of government efforts towards the reconstruction and socio-economic development of the country and a demonstration of UNOCI's contribution to the protection of the civilian population as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 2162 on Cote d'Ivoire.

Receiving the keys of the police station , renovated at a cost of CFA 11.5 million (23,000 USD), the Police Prefect for the Savannes District, Divisional Commissioner Boitinnin Kouame Kouakou expressed satisfaction with the project, saying the staff of the police station would henceforth « work in a more favourable condition and with better quality material. No doubt they would offer better services for the welfare of the population ».

Presiding over the handing over ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Tengrela Prefecture, Jean Paul Babi Irie, on behalf of the population, expressed gratitude to UNOCI for its social and security gesture. « With security established, one can henceforth tackle other problems, especially those related to social cohesion and the restoration of peace with serenity, » he said.

It would be recalled that UNOCI has executed other quick impact projects in the area including the general hospital, the Lycee Moderne, the Institute for the training and education of wwomen and the Prefecture of Tengrela.
