Abidjan, 4 September 2014... The Special Representative of UN Secretary-General in Cote d'Ivoire, Mrs. Aichatou Mindaoudou on Wednesday 3 September 2014 condemned the attack on the headquarters of the Ivorian Popular front (FPI) party on Monday 1 September 2014.
After visiting the premises of the headquarters and discussing with FPI officials, the Special Representative told news reporters that "democracy is expressed through arguments and not by force."
She called on the FPI to continue in its efforts toward national reconciliation. "These acts should not discourage your willingness to promote peace and national reconciliation," she said.
Responding to a question from the press regarding the opening of an investigation of the attack, the Special Representative urged the Ivorian authorities to do all it can to identify the culprits and bring them to face the law.
