
Speaking after the meeting, Dr Touré said that the delegation had come to gather information from and solicit the advice of the Special Representative « who knows the context very well » and to discuss UNOCI's role in the electoral process to ensure the good conduct of the elections.
Dr Aminata Touré then gave details of the AU observer mission, which is composed of 37 experienced observers from 22 countries, representing all the regions of the Continent. « We have started discussions with the different political and administrative actors involved in the preparation of the election and all our observers will be deployed throughout the country. We will observe the voting process, the counting of the votes up until the announcement of the results », she said, adding that at the end of the election process the African Union mission will publicly share the results of the election and make recommendation to the actors.
