Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Diakité said that his visit had provided him with the opportunity to thank the United Nations through its Special Representative for listening to them regarding their work with UNOCI's Civil Affairs Section.
He said that he had asked for UNOCI's assistance in organising a capacity-building seminar for traditional chiefs from the Atchan (Ebriés) and Gnans (Attiés) ethnic groups in the District of Abidjan. The aim of the seminar will be to strengthen their capacity in maintaining social cohesion, teach them the mechanisms of preventing and managing conflicts, as well as those for good governance in their respective villages. « This important seminar will teach our village chiefs the practicalities of good governance », he added.
He said in addition to asking for UNOCI's assistance in organsing the seminar, he had also asked the Special Representative for the Mission's help in digitalising the Abidjan authority's archives, which were rehabilitated a year ago with its help.
« We received encouraging responses from the Special Representative who promised to give us the assistance we need to organise the seminar and to finance the digilisation of our archives, » he said, adding that he was extremely grateful to the Head of UNOCI.
