The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire successfully completed its mandate on 30 June 2017.

Deputy Special Representative and UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Ndolamb Ngokwey bids farewell to Prime Minister

Deputy Special Representative of UN Secretary-general and UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Côte d'Ivoire, Ndolamb Ngokwey who has come to the end of his assignment, on Tuesday, 5 November 2013 paid a courtesy call on Ivorian Prime Minister, Daniel Kablan Duncan to bid him farewell.

After the meeting, Mr. Ngokwey said he had come to thank the Prime Minister and his entire cabinet for the support given to the UN System during the past three years. He stressed the importance the UN System places on Côte d'Ivoire and assured the Prime Minister of the Organisation's interest in continuing its work in the country.

"I will always remember the pride of the Ivorian people, the willingness of the people to restore peace and to forge ahead to make Côte d'Ivoire what its national anthem calls the land of hope for mankind. I will remember that after the upheavals we all experienced, the country is in the process of emerging from that critical period and its major challenges are known by all: They are security, social cohesion and economic development," Mr. Ngokwey enumerated.

To conclude, the Deputy Special Representative reiterated how proud he was to have served in Côte d'Ivoire and expressed the wish to see the country move ahead. "A victory for Côte d'Ivoire is not only a victory for West Africa but the whole of Africa," he said.
