Chief of UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous inquires about evolution of DDR in Côte d’Ivoire

Abidjan, 31 October 2013...The Chief of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Hervé Ladsous, has held discussions with the Director of the Ivorian Authority for the Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration of ex-combatants (ADDR) in Côte d'Ivoire, Fidèle Sarassoro.

The two officials discussed the reform of the security sector and the support of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) to the DDR process. The head of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations reiterated the support of the international community to ensure that the process, which to date has demobilised and reinserted some 11,000 ex-combatants, according to the ADDR director, is a success.

« We are in a very positive situation and with the support of UNOCI and other partners, ADDR could attain its objectives, » stressed Mr. Sarassoro.
