Information Note - UNOCI and UNMIL chiefs discuss cooperation between the two Missions

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou and the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Liberia, Karin Landgren, on Wednesday, 30 October 2013 in Abidjan, discussed cooperation between the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) and the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).

"The Security Council, in its two resolutions on UNMIL and UNOCI, asked us to strengthen and develop our cooperation and we discussed the different areas in which we could cooperate whether its regarding refugees, DDR and as you saw in Zwedru on cooperation at the local level as well, said the head of UNOCI at the end of the meeting. "We decided that the UN Country Teams in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia should be involved in this cooperation," added Mrs Mindaoudou.

Echoing the sentiments, the chief of UNMIL said that they had discussed the situation on the border between Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. "It is important to work on both sides of the border in order to advance the consolidation of peace in Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire," she stressed.

In addition to the quadripartite meeting attended by the governments of Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia, as well as UNOCI and UNMIL, the two Missions also organise regular bilateral meetings and joint patrols along the border between the two countries.
