Speaking after he was received by Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, Mr. Choi said their meeting had focused on the rest of the electoral process. He added that while discussions in past months had centred on the post-election crisis, the post-crisis phase had since been ushered in thanks to the wisdom of the Ivorian people.
« We identified four essential tasks," Mr. Choi said, "security, including security sector reform; national reconciliation; the preparation of legislative elections, which should be held before the end of this year; and, finally, re-launching the economy, without which life will not resume the way it should."
He reiterated UNOCI's willingness to accompany and assist the Ivorian government. "It is evident that, given a certain degree of uncertainty, the international community and the Security Council are aware that UNOCI's presence should be maintained in its current configuration, in keeping with the desire of the Ivorian people, until after the legislative elections," Mr. Choi said.
