Special Representative and Senegal Armed Forces Minister discuss contribution of Senegalese peacekeepers to UNOCI

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d'Ivoire, Aïchatou Mindaoudou, on Friday, 7 August 2015, received the Minister of Senegal Armed Forces, Augustin Tine, at the headquarters of the United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in Abidjan.



Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Tine told journalists that his visit was a courtesy call on the Special Representative. With regard to the contribution of the Senegalese Contingent serving in UNOCI, the Senegalese Armed Forces Minister said : « It is the United Nations' trust in our Contingent which led to them being in charge of the reserve forces for the past three years ». He also informed the press that the equipment of the reserve forces had been renewed three times and included two new helicopters which were deployed in Côte d'Ivoire ». He said he was « very satisfied » with their part in the military parade marking 55 years of Côte d'Ivoire's independence as well as the participation peacekeepers from UNOCI's Senegalese Contingent.



The Special Representative thanked the Senegal Armed Forces Minister and congratulated him on the professionalism of the Senegalese Contingent working for peace in Côte d'Ivoire.
