UNOCI’s disengagement from Côte d’Ivoire is taking place in strict accordance with UN rules and regulations

Resolution 2284 unanimously adopted on 28 April 2016 by the Security Council of the United Nations decided that the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI) will end on 30 June 2017.

The reduction process of UNOCI civilian, military and police staff will continue until 30 June 2017, on which date, UNOCI will cease all of its operational activities in Côte d’Ivoire.

It is therefore with great astonishment that the Mission notes that provisions of UN Rules and Regulations related to the extension of appointments with UNOCI are the subject of manipulation and malicious information to make the public believe that the Staff have been terminated and are entitled to redundancy payment.

The payment of such severance benefit is not part in any way of the Staff conditions of service duly signed par each and every employee of the mission, which clearly indicate that Staff members who separate on an “expiration of appointment, are not entitled to termination indemnity.” Furthermore, it is not within the discretion of anyone in the mission to decide otherwise.

The entire process leading to the disengagement of UNOCI from Côte d’Ivoire is being conducted in strict accordance with UN Staff Rules and Regulations.
