UNOCI trains religious leaders on promoting social cohesion

The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), on Tuesday, 5 April 2016, organised a capacity-building workshop for religious guides in collaboration with the Friendly Society of Religious Leaders.

The aim of the workshop was to assist the religious leaders in their objective of establishing lasting social cohesion in Côte d’Ivoire.

Participants were trained on how to prevent and manage conflict as well as how they can contribute to establishing social cohesion in the country.

Speaking at the event, the president of the Friendly Society, Reverend Georges Coulibaly said that his institution wanted to above all encourage inter-religious dialogue, initiate community development projects and fight to ensure that human rights and freedom of religion are respected.

It should be noted that the Friendly Society comprises leaders from five different religions and it aims to become a mutually beneficial organisation that resolves conflicts.
