UNOCI PROVIDES DRINKING WATER TO VILLAGERS IN DALIGUEPA

Abidjan, 17 July 2009...The United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) gave logistical support to villagers in Daliguepa, in the district of Gagnoa, 280 kilometres northwest of Abidjan by providing them with a16000-litre water tank on 17 June 2009.

The shortage of water shortage is one of the major problems faced by the villagers, so at the Ivorian Government's request, UNOCI provided the water tank to facilitate an important traditional ceremony attended by Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo.

This support is part of humanitarian actions such as free medical care initiated by the UN Mission for the benefit of the neediest populations throughout the country.
