UNOCI peacekeeper dies

Abidjan, 10 March 2016- The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), regrets to announce the death of a soldier from the 15th Senegalese Contingent (SENBATT). Corporal Baye Saliou Faye died on 9 March 2016 in hospital in Yamoussoukro, following a short illness.

Corporal Faye, who was 40 years old, was deployed in UNOCI in February 2015. He was married with two children.

His death brings to 101 the number of peacekeepers who have died since the start of the UN Mission in April 2004.

UNOCI presents its condolences to the Senegalese Government and the family of the deceased.
