UNOCI PAYS TRIBUTE TO SENEGALESE PEACEKEEPER WHO DIED IN YAMOUSSOUKRO

The United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), on Thursday, 17 March 2016, paid a final tribute to Corporal Baye Saliou Faye of the 15th Senegalese Contingent (SENBATT), who died in hospital in Yamoussoukro after a short illness, at its headquarters in Abidjan.

The laying-out ceremony was attended by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Côte d’Ivoire, Mrs Aichatou Mindaoudou and the Force Commander, General Didier L’Hôte, both of whom laid wreaths on the coffin of the deceased. A number of UNOCI military and civilian personnel took part in the ceremony which was also attended by the First Counsellor of the Senegalese Embassy, Mr. Ibrahim Seck.

Corporal Baye Saliou Faye was described as a dynamic, devoted and courageous soldier who had a sense of commitment and professionalism during the ceremony.

The late Senegalese peacekeeper who arrived in Côte d’Ivoire in February 2015, was 40 years old, married with two children.

His death brings to 101 the number of peacekeepers since UNOCI was deployed in April 2004.
