TOGOLESE SOLDIER SERVING WITH UNOCI DIES

Abidjan, 12 August 2009...The United Nation Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) regrets to announce the death of Sergeant Gnon Kpakpa serving with the Togolese Battalion (TOGOBATT), on Thursday, 6 August 2009.

Sergeant Gnon Kpakpa, who died following a short illness, arrived in Côte d'Ivoire on 27 May 2009. He was 42.

His death brings to 41 the number of soldiers who have died since UNOCI was deployed in April 2004.

UNOCI extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Government of Togo.
